In an era of Turbos, electric engines and particulate filters, old-school Naturally Aspirated noise becomes increasingly sought after. More so if these N/A engines got racing pedigree, are V-shaped, got 8 cylinders and come with a full-on Titanium exhaust.
So, it’s time to remind ourselves how these engines sound like..how about a GT8 chasing a 911 GT3 RS around Nurburgring’s Nordschleife ?
Tim, better known as Shmee 150, is a star ‘YouTouber’, if you didn’t know that already. What you are less likely to be aware of, is that he has been part of the GT8 Club since day-1.
The first time I met Tim was at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the Supercar Paddock. More precisely, right next to the ‘Diavolo Red’ GT8, the only press-car built in right-hand-drive.
It was also the first time for the GT8’s 150 perspective owners and other petrol-heads, to witness a GT8 ‘in-motion’, and to listen at its epic V8 soundtrack.
Tim’s ‘Road to GT8’, a record of 14 ‘vlogs’ on his GT8 journey, started on that day.
Throughout these episodes, Tim goes through the reasons he added the GT8 to his collection, his first GT8 drive, the specification’s choice and so much more!
More so, what comes across from watching these videos is the passion, the engagement and the emotional connection Tim built with the GT8. And that is very much the same feeling shared by fellow owners in the GT8 Club family.
So why the GT8 does that? Maybe because of its perfectly balanced and full-of-feel drive, its intoxicating V8 melody, and its jaw-dropping, carbon-fibre sculpted, shapes? Or maybe because the GT8 isn’t just a car, it is a special driving device that goes under your skin in its own, unique, way and make you smile like no others’ along the way.
I am a keen petrol-head and a Kart racer, at heart. My friends call me Fil (Filippo, according to my driving license). I am a “Vantage addict” and this is my story:
I have always loved Aston Martin, to start with. Growing up as a child in Italy, seeing an Aston being driven on the road was a rare thing…a thing of beauty!
In 2005 the newly launched V8 Vantage instantly became my dream car. Within minutes, the image of a ‘Titanium Silver’ Vantage become proudly featured on my desktop’s background.
Few years later, in 2012, my Vantage addiction evolved badly! It was when Aston Martin Racing entered the WEC (World Endurance Championship) with the Vantage GTE. I just loved the proper N/A V8 sounding engine and the jaw-dropping wide-bodied shape of that “race-spec” Vantage.
Watching for years the Vantage GTE successfully battling against Ferrari V8 Berlinettas, Porsche RSRs and the ‘Vettes’ at Le Mans reinforced my desire for owning that dream car. So, in 2015 I took the plunge on a gorgeous 4.7 Vantage Manual ‘Sport-pack’ (obviously in Titanium Silver!).
My ‘Vantage addiction’ was finally tested when, in Feb 2016, I heard rumors about an hardcore, lightweight, V8 Vantage being developed in secret by Aston Martin Special Operations. My ‘Man Maths’ justified the deposit (on the basis of that rumors alone) and my GT8 journey started!
Whilst a cure to my Vantage addiction has yet to be found, I have encountered and connected with so many more ‘addicts’ throughout this wonderful journey….and the GT8 Club has became our playground.
